A Winter’s Journey | Canberra

Event

Following triumphant performances in Australia and the UK, Musica Viva Australia is thrilled to present A Winter's Journey.

A Winter's Journey is a reimagining of Franz Schubert's Winterreise, a collection of songs mapping a winding path from love to despair, anger and hope. Lindy Hume directs acclaimed British tenor Allan Clayton and Australian pianist Kate Golla. Central to the drama are video projections created by David Bergman (The Picture of Dorian Gray, Dracula) who uses iconic artist Fred Williams' glowing visions of Australia to create a landscape of the emotions.

Since his Australian debut as Hamlet at the Adelaide Festival in 2018, Allan Clayton's star has continued to soar: Peter Grimes at the Met, Hamlet in New York, Berlin and Sydney, and the 2025 Olivier Award for outstanding achievement in opera. It's therefore a special treat to hear of the most outstanding singers of his generation alongside acclaimed pianist Kate Golla performing Schubert's poignant song cycle in this unique presentation.

A Winter's Journey is presented in partnership with Opera Australia and in association with Opera Queensland, State Opera of South Australia and West Australian Opera.
