ANU Orchestra and ANU Jazz Orchestra in Concert

Event

The ANU Orchestra, conducted by Rowan Harvey Martin, presents an evening of powerful and diverse music.

The concert opens with Shostakovich's brilliant Festive Overture, a whirlwind of energy and celebration, before turning to the world premiere of Trimons! Souffrons! by student composer Benjamin Fieldsend, performed with the Llewellyn Choir and guest choristers. Elena Kats-Chernin's shimmering Wild Swans Suite finishes the first half, featuring soprano Rylee Bussenschutt.

The program continues with Don Banks' Nexus, a trailblazing fusion of symphony orchestra and jazz quintet, featuring Andrew Hackwill (saxophone), Dan McLean (trumpet), Michael Dooley (piano), James Luke (bass), and Stephen Richards (drums). The orchestral performance concludes with Howard Goodall's moving Invictus: A Passion (Movement IX), uniting orchestra and choir in an uplifting expression of hope and resilience.

Following the orchestra's performance, the ANU Jazz Orchestra will take the stage, showcasing the next generation of jazz talent under the direction of Constantine Campbell.
