Explore Art Deco design and Canberra's identity as a city of design with Canberra artist Sarit Cohen. Inspired by Modernism and the theme of dissent, this hands-on workshop invites you to experiment with colour, pattern and composition to create a ceramic piece that reflects your own perspective on place.
You will begin with a brief introduction to Art Deco design, exploring its bold geometric forms and distinctive visual language. You will then create your own decorative composition by applying underglaze decals to a bisque-fired ceramic cup. Choose from a selection of provided geometric decal designs or incorporate your own patterns as you develop a unique response to Canberra's design identity.
Sarit will guide you through each stage of the process, demonstrating techniques for applying decals and finishing your work with a clear glaze. Your completed cup will be fired at Sarit's studio and returned to you approximately one week after the workshop.
