For this exhibition, Zoe draws on homemade banners, sporting pennants, flags and quilts, considering both their forms and cultural and social contexts. These references inform a new series of Soft Text works, developed through quilting techniques and screen printed text. The large scale works are designed to be worn by multiple people, either as a single piece with multiple points of attachment or as separate pieces worn collectively.
Through these works, Zoe continues to explore the ambiguity and slippages of language, transforming everyday statements into physical, wearable objects. By subverting familiar forms and phrasing, How Will They Know It's Me asks how jewellery can communicate, and what happens to meaning when words move from casual conversation onto the body and into public space.
